Black Seed (Nigella sativa) is often called the “seed of blessing” and is considered by many to be a healing herb. Black seed is know by many names, including black cumin, kalonji, blackseed, swartzcummel, Nigella sativa, fennel flower, habbat al barakah, sinouj, black caraway and habba sawdah.
Nigella sativa is an annual flowering plant that grows naturally in Asia. The plant has a pungent bitter taste and a slight smell of strawberries. It is often used in flavoring candy and liquors. The black seed plant is often used in herbal remedies and is even eaten by elephants suffering from indigestion.
